Microsoft Edge Gets A New Cool Workspaces Feature For Managing Tabs

Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser is getting a new Workspaces feature that will make it easier for users to keep their work, personal browsing, shopping, and various project-related tab groups separate.

As spotted by Reddit user Leopeva64-2, the experimental feature is currently in Edge Canary but only for select Edge Insiders as part of a controlled rollout.

The new Workspaces feature in Edge allows users to create a new workspace, rename Windows, assign colors to them for easy identification, or delete it. It can be accessed from a new W button in the regular tab strip, regardless of whether the workspace is horizontal or vertical. The feature also helps users to arrange their browsing activities by saving their workflow.

Another Reddit user LeoVarela shared a screenshot of the actual workspace and an animated GIF. Each workspace can include multiple tabs. According to Leo, if the Edge window is closed without deleting the workspace, it will remain available the next time one launches the browser giving users the ability to launch them at any time.

If you are an Edge Canary Insider and wish to try out the new Workspaces feature, you need to follow the steps given below:

  1. Drag an Edge Canary shortcut to the desktop.
  2. Right Click on the Edge Canary shortcut and select “Properties” from the context menu.
  3. In the Target text field, add a space, and paste the following parameter: –enable-features=msWorkspaces
  4. Click the Ok button and restart the browser to apply the changes. You should be able to see the “Workspaces” button at the top left corner of the screen.
